What Goes Into Designing The Perfect Mould For Die Casting

Designing the perfect mold for die casting requires extensive analysis of the design as well as perfect workmanship. So, when you visit a mould maker for the very first time, check for their past work experience and customer satisfaction rates.

Creating The Right Mold For Industrial Use

A modern mould maker should be able to deliver precise, highly durable, and stable molds in time. If you are visiting a mold manufacturer for the very first time, these are some of the questions that you must ask him.

Ask about The Tapering

The degree to which the mould can be tapered will determine how easily the metallic piece can be ejected. So, when you visit a mold manufacturer, check the extent to which the mold can be tempered.

Creating Logos Or Symbols

In most cases, when you are creating a metallic part, you also want the part to carry a logo or symbol. The logo or symbol represents the band that is manufacturing the metallic part. Original parts, be it for a car or any home appliance, bear the original logo of the manufacturer and are a symbol of assurance that the product is of good quality. If the logo is a raised one, it will require additional metal, and if it’s a recessed one, it will need less metal. So, the design of the mold should have channels for the overflow of molten metal.

Ribs In The Mold

A rib is a structure in a die-casting mold that is used to strengthen metallic structures that have thin walls.  However, the placement of the rib is critical, and merely having many ribs at random locations does not serve the purpose. If the ribs are placed in the correct position, the chances of developing cracks are reduced to a great extent.

Also, correct rib placement makes the metallic walls more uniform. So, suppose you are creating a metallic tea cup with thin walls, and you can feel irregularities on the outer surface of the cup. In that case, it is very likely that the rib placement was either not done or was done incorrectly. Visit a mold manufacturer and make sure his employees know when and where to place the ribs in a mold.

A System To Cool The Mold

The metallic structure is created only when the metal cools down and solidifies. However, some molds have a cooling system built into them so that the cooling process can be controlled and, at times, hastened. So, if you have any specifications where you would want the mold to have an in-built cooling system, do have a word with the mold manufacturer and ask the appropriate questions.

Final Words

Creating the perfect mould is the first step to building a flourishing business where the molds and the structures they create are basic raw materials. So, the next time you visit a mold manufacturer, check if they have a good track record of replicating the exact designs when it comes to moulds. Also, ask them if they can insert ribs and create brand logos with perfection.
